LEDs – Round 4 – Reading Lamp MkII Assembly

Alright, I’m back. I’m going to power through on a couple posts to get caught up.

I finished the MkII lamp. I designed a new case and assembled it all. Here are some pictures.

Printing! The small piece on the end is a shim for the bolts holding down the power connector. I went with a nice mint green.
Print fail due to poor adhesion, probably due to the bed not being flat or the nozzle not being close enough to the print bed.
It took a few attempts to get the dimensions correct, but it shows the strength of the “rapid prototyping” use case of 3D printers.
Fitting the MicroUSB connector with the above mentioned shim.
Another awesome picture. I think I am trying to show how I’m going to solder the resistors?
Yep, I guess that was it. There they are!
Enclosure mounted onto base of lamp. I ended up not using nuts on the bolts, as it was pretty secure just into the plastic of the lamp clamp.
With components stuffed inside. Wasn’t super happy with this. Thankfully none of the connections broke during this part.
Final product.
MkI next to MkII

So this project turned out really well. And I learned a lot and made some friends along the way. I’ve been using it a couple weeks now without issue.
